Atletico Madrid Rekindles Interest in Hojbjerg: Loan Deal with Purchase Clause
LaLiga Club Seeks Loan Agreement with Obligation to Buy at £40m
Atletico Madrid has taken a fresh step towards acquiring midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham, as discussions resume for a loan arrangement that comes with a requirement to purchase.
Negotiations are in progress, centering on a potential fee amounting to £40 million.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is also in the mix, contemplating a move for Hojbjerg before the transfer window concludes.
With the window closing on Friday, Manchester United aims to execute last-minute transactions. Erik ten Hag, their manager, is eager to reinforce the team’s midfield resources.
While Hojbjerg may not have been Manchester United’s initial choice, the possibility of a late transfer has surfaced. The club was presented with the opportunity to initiate talks about a deal, according to the Telegraph’s report.
Atletico Madrid is reigniting conversations with Tottenham concerning a loan deal involving Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.
Additionally, Manchester United has been linked to the Denmark midfielder in recent reports.
Back in the past, Tottenham secured Hojbjerg’s services in a £20 million agreement with Southampton. This happened three years ago under the guidance of former manager Jose Mourinho.
However, the current head coach, Ange Postecoglou, is open to the departure of Hojbjerg and a few other prominent first-team players, including England’s Eric Dier.
Hojbjerg was on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid earlier, with negotiations initiated between the clubs. Unfortunately, the talks fell through at that time.
Even Saudi Arabia exhibited interest in the player, given their history of recruiting talent from the Premier League. Nonetheless, Hojbjerg expressed a preference to continue his career in European football.
Tottenham’s Postecoglou has a penchant for deploying a midfield trio consisting of Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, and Pape Sarr. Consequently, Hojbjerg has faced challenges in gaining substantial playing time during this season.
In the current Premier League campaign, Hojbjerg has only made two appearances as a substitute. However, he did feature in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup match against Fulham, starting the game, which unfortunately ended in defeat through a penalty shootout.
