Barcelona in Advanced Talks for Mamadou Fall’s Signature
Barcelona is engaged in advanced negotiations with LAFC to secure the signing of 21-year-old center-back Mamadou Fall, as reported by The Athletic. The talks are focused on a loan arrangement with an option to purchase before the conclusion of the 2023-24 LaLiga season. However, a final agreement has yet to be reached, with the Spanish transfer window set to close on Friday night.
Villarreal has also expressed interest in Fall, who spent the previous season on loan with the club’s second team. During this time, Fall participated in 25 matches for Villarreal’s B team and even made a single appearance in LaLiga before returning to the United States over the summer.
Hailing from Senegal, Fall is among the most promising young talents in the MLS, boasting 42 appearances for LAFC since joining the club in 2021. Recently, the 21-year-old defender participated in three matches for the California-based team following his return from his most recent European loan spell.
LAFC currently stands second in the Western Conference, accumulating 40 points from 25 matches played. The team’s achievements include clinching the MLS Cup and MLS Supporters Shield titles in the previous season.
In a related move earlier this year, Barcelona secured the services of another MLS player, Julian Araujo. The Mexican international right-back made his transition from LA Galaxy to Spain in February, with a brief stint at Las Palmas on loan starting from August 1.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa has taken steps to address their defensive lineup by agreeing to bring in French center-back Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona. This decision comes as a response to an unfortunate injury sustained by Tyrone Mings, the former Tottenham defender they are seeking to replace.
