David De Gea’s Solo Training Shows Determination to Secure New Club
Former Manchester United star goalkeeper David De Gea is on a mission to find a new club as he steps up his solo training efforts. De Gea, released by Manchester United after the 2022-23 season, has taken to social media to showcase his dedication to staying in top form.
During the previous season, the Spanish goalkeeper’s impressive performance earned him the prestigious Premier League’s Golden Glove award, with an outstanding record of 17 clean sheets. Despite this achievement, Manchester United decided not to extend his contract for an additional year, leaving him as a free agent.
At 32 years old, De Gea is determined to prove that he still possesses the skills and ability to compete at the highest level. His video on social media displays various training exercises, including footwork drills, fitness routines, high-catching work, close range stops, reflex saves, and long-range blocks.
The training clip concludes with De Gea focusing on his footwork and distribution – areas that became factors in him losing favor with Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager who prefers goalkeepers comfortable in possession.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were among the clubs linked to De Gea, with the former needing a goalkeeper due to Manuel Neuer’s recent return to training and Yann Sommer’s departure to Inter Milan. However, these links appear to have cooled, leaving De Gea still without a new club.
De Gea’s departure from Manchester United paved the way for Andre Onana’s arrival from Inter Milan as the new No. 1 goalkeeper. The club has also undergone other changes in their goalkeeping lineup, with Matej Kovar leaving for Bayer Leverkusen and Dean Henderson expected to join Crystal Palace for £15 million. Additionally, Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce is set to join Manchester United for £4.3 million.
As the transfer window deadline approaches on Friday, September 1 at 11 pm, De Gea’s dedication to his training signifies his determination to secure a new opportunity and continue his football journey.
