Sergio Ramos Targeted in Home Raid During Sevilla Champions League Match

Sergio Ramos Targeted in Home Raid While Playing for Sevilla

Former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, a football legend with 28 career trophies, found his home under attack while he was away playing in the Champions League for Sevilla.

The 37-year-old was facing French side Lens in the European competition when burglars broke into his residence. These thieves managed to bypass the house alarm on the La Alegria country estate in Andalusia, Spain. Inside the house, they 'terrorized' Ramos' four young children, who were being cared for by two nannies but remained unharmed. His wife, journalist Pilar Rubio, was absent, as she was away for work.

The criminals made off with valuable items, including luxury watches, jewelry, designer clothing, and cash. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Ramos, who recently joined Sevilla, his childhood club, and had just moved to Bollullos de la Mitacion, a city near Seville, with his family. He and his wife, Rubio, began dating in 2012 before getting married in June 2019.

This incident adds Ramos to the list of footballers who have been targeted by robbers in Spain in recent years. Last year, former Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was a victim of a break-in, and in the same year, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski had his watch stolen. Ansu Fati, also of Barcelona at the time, had his home burgled in 2021. In 2018, a trio of Barcelona stars faced similar incidents.

In his prime, Ramos was considered one of the world's top defenders, playing 671 times for Real Madrid and winning numerous league titles and the Champions League before joining PSG in 2021.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the security challenges faced by high-profile footballers in Spain.
